What a great car !

Just got back from a month in Ft. Myers, Florida and was somewhat concerned about driving a 22 year old car for this trip. Went about total of 4,000 miles...1200 each way and drove about 1500 miles, mostly stop and go with some highway while in Ft. Myers. Averaged just about 21 mpg for the entire trip and used 1 quart of oil.....not bad. Car performed beautifully and no problem cruising at 75-85mph even in rain. We took the car because we just turned in my wife's leased SRX. Heck the 380 held just as much luggage as the SRX! It s hard for me to get excited about replacing her SRX because I know there is no new car out there,( that I can afford) that is as tight, quiet and gives the satisfaction the W126 does.

I dont get too excited over new cars. My 86 420sel looks are as good as they get. I saw a kia that looked like an E class the other day. If my 86 can drive as good as a new car I'll just keep instead of get a new one. Noth that I can afford a new one anyway. Not even a kia.

I honestly can afford to purchase any car, or most of the new cars out there if I want to spend my hard earned money.

But why do I want to? None of the new cars really interest me. My Car and Driver magazine arrives every month on time, I thumb through it within 5 minutes while sitting on the toilet, after that, I lay it aside, and will never touch it again.

These new cars are so disheartening, even by just looking at them.

All I find out in them is the same tacky design, by some cool teenagers. Big wheels with the same poor tasted body is the trend all about.

I told my friend that driving my good old Mercedes is the way I laugh at this moronic world.

Gary, interestingly enough, I am looking at a new SRX as an addition to the family. They finally upgraded the interior and it looks pretty decent.
But, no way they will pry me out of our '91 SE. We'll just have to find room for both. I figured if I got the SRX, the wife could use it as her daily driver/work car, etc; and I could baby "Old Pearl" even more.
Are we weird or what? coddelling old cars, and hauling fertilizer and ice-cream-smearing Grandkids in brand new ones!
But I bet the brand-new Caddy won't make me smile as much when I drive it as the old Benz still does. And we'll still take the Benz out on Saturday night, to insure the front row at the valet parking - Ha.

I'd take my 1995 E300D with 140k on it anywhere without any concern. I drove my 1984 280E from Chicago to Houston with concern, but those concerns turned out to be unfounded.

Good to hear you had a good, safe trip Gary. I knew it would make it. :)

Nothing gives me more pleasure than driving my old MB 500SL. Now I m working on the 83 380 SL, I can't think of getting rid of. Love the Benzes. :D :D :D

All my Mercedes are great to drive!!

I agree with you guys wholeheartedly .... My biggest problem is picking which Mercedes to drive. Going to my home state of PA in May and will drive the 92 300CE back and forth, for a total of 3000 miles overall. No qualms about taking that car at all.
