Sorry I can't help you with the actual procedure. I can only relate that there is a spring kit (maybe an updated version) which can replace your wind deflector springs. I only know this because my car (a 1987 300E, new to me) had this repair done right before my acquiring it. I don't know if this is a DIY project. Contact one of the many learned sages on this site. Surely one of them can help you. Good luck!

Yes , it is a DIY job. I did it a while back. There is a updated kit, less than $5 , if I remember correctly. It is not that hard but, it is time consuming, Especially for a first timer, even with the manuals. The new kit works great. Get the parts and possibly get the manuals. By doing this job yourself, consider the CD's paid for...
If you decide NOT to buy the manuals I am sure somebody will help you with details, I will try to look for the information in the mean time.
Good luck!!!!!!!

I found the info but, I only have the paper manuals, I do not have the CD available. I can not e-mail it to you. I do not have access to a copier at home but, if somebody has the CD's available now the job number is 77-250. On a side note, it is only one page and it has a diagram and a picture. The manuals do help but, you have to do some thinking of your own.
