I'm replacing crushed motor mounts in our '83 300 D. Is it standard operating procedure to change the two engine shocks when installing new motor mounts?

When I replaced the motor mounts in my 1984 300SD, I only changed the bushings for the engine shocks, not the shocks themselves. I understand that this is the typical procedure.
