Is it necessary to buy a Strutbrace for hundreds of British Pounds after all it's just a bit of strengthend Tubing, can my mate not knock something up in the Workshop?
Or there more to it then the eye can see?

Also can anyone tell me how dificult it is to lose the Bootlock and use in it's place a solenoid with a switch on the Dashboard. Somebody surely must have done it. It looks far better.

I thank you for your help.

regards Toby

why?

explantion to why.

First of all I had to laugh when I read Metricman's Post.

My Reason for the Strubrace is to my knowledge which does not have to be correct, but anyway here it goes. I was told that it gives more strength to the front of the Chassis.
And it would distribute the Forces whilst cornering evenly between both shockabsorbers.

As for the Boot lock I would say the Star would look far more majestic without the look underneath I thought I might connect it with the central locking so I can open it remotely. Like the new S-class has got. Very useful.
I think but this is only my opinion.

The later MB models with remote trunk release have a trunk lock that is vacuum controlled. Your W201 190 has a trunk lock that is mechanical controlled (pushing the lock is pushing a metal tumbler while pushing the later MB locks is pushing an electrical button that activates a vacuum pump to blow the trunk lock open).

If you so want to change that, you might want to contact a German guy who did something similar with his 190.

You can visit his home page: http://www.car-gallery.de/ and you can find his mail address there (his name is Andy).

There is absolutely no gain to get out of a strutbrace. I know quiet sure that you will not experience any difference while cornering the car!
