Put your fuel milage here :)
Hello I would like to start a fuel milage post for mostly gasoline MB as I am sure the Diesel Section already has one
Vehicle: 1992 Mercedes 190E 2.3L auto Results: 9.2l/100 km or 25.5 US MPG on premium fuel Driving Conditions: 70% hwy 30% city Comments: gentle acceleration, avg 70 mph highway speed |
1985 380SE
avg. 20mpg --87 octane 70% city, 30% highway recent trip total 4,000 miles, 80% highway, avg 75-80mph, 21mpg mileage on car, 111,500 |
Vehicle: 1992 Mercedes 190E 2.3L auto
Results: 25.5 US MPG (winter)/27.5 mpg (summer) on 87 octane fuel Driving Conditions: 40% hwy 60% country roads Comments: gentle acceleration, constant 62 mph highway speed (2500 rpm), 35-60 mph on country roads. I had a 100% highway tank a few weeks ago (in February) , and I calculated 30 mpg -- but that's only one tank, so not really reliable. jp |
Vehicle: 1995 C220 W202 2.2L auto Results: 10.7L/100km Driving Conditions: 70% City 30% highway Comments: The car says hi to its redline rev limiter at least once everyday. Very happy with the result fuel economy. Not too happy with the lack of go, but I can live with it. City I try to accelerate to 70-odd km/h(40mph?) everywhere coz it's smoothest in 4th gear like that. And on freeway I take it up to about 140km/h (80mph) usually. |
Vehicle: 1987 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 5-speed
Results: 17 MPG on premium fuel Driving Conditions: 95% city Comments: I have too much fun with her, not a daily driver so I don't care about mileage. UPDATE: 7 MPG................... on the racetrack ;) |
Vehicle: 1972 280SE 4.5
Results: 8.5-10.5MPG city/mixed, 13-15MPG highway (13 if I do 90-100, 15 if I do 70-80) Driving Conditions: With the 8.5MPG mostly city (5% highway), with 15MPG that's extrapolated pure highway when comparing a tank I got 13.5 on with what it would have been had I not done 30 miles in-town. Comments: I drive it like it was stolen. It pings lightly on 93 octane, so I never use less. High-compression heads from a 3.5 give me about 10:1 compression and it screams on the highway. If I floor it from a stop to 90, I can watch the needle go down. And I always do. Non-MBs: Vehicle: 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Results: 16.3MPG last tank Driving Conditions: Mostly highway (95%), that was commuting to and from work. Comments: It had the potential to be higher, but I do like to burn rubber with this 4.0 every now and then. It's very "torquey". Vehicle: 2001 Chrysler 300M Results: 21.2MPG this tank as of Friday on my way home from work (computer's readout is very accurate, I test it regularly) Driving Conditions: Mostly highway (95%), also commuting to and from work. Comments: City driving REALLY kills mileage on this puppy. I can be getting 24MPG average going just to and from work, but one trip into downtown and poof, I'm suddenly 2MPG lower. The trip to and from work also includes a 1 mile steep mountain road (on the way in) up which realtime mileage reads as 4MPG. The same hill on the way home is less steep, and I get around 10-14MPG going up it over 2 miles. |
Great replies, keep them coming
My dads car: 04 Volvo S60 2.5T 20 - 22 MPG mixed driving in the winter |
MB '89 560SL--premium only, 15-17 mpg in mixed driving city/urban freeway/highway, only in non-salt weather and usually not in the rain.
Non-MB is 2000 Saab 9-5 SE wagon, V6: averages 19-20 in the winter in mixed driving, 21-22 when it's consistently above the mid 30's Fahrenheit, up to 24 or so highway at a normal cruise of 80 or so (occasionally up to 85). Wife's 2004 Olds Bravada can hit 20 or so on the highway at a steady 72, not more, and averages 14-15 in town, worse if all surface city streets. |
1990 300SE M103.
Sees 6500 rpm every time I take it for a run (past its limiter). 60% highway / 40% city : 21 - 22 mpg. Seems to loathe cruising at engine speeds < 4K rpm. |
Vehicle: 1984 380sl
22-25 mpg highway/ 18-20 mpg city on regular People love to knock the 380 engines but they do get decent gas mileage. Vehicle: 1988 420sel 18-20 mpg highway/ 14-16 mpg city on premium Not too bad for a tank of a car though I must admit I was expecting the highway mileage to be in the low 20's. I drive these cars like I have a egg under my gas foot. You could probably easily drop 3 or so miles off if I was a little more aggressive with the gas. |
1974 350SLC with 4 speed manual tranny , true milage unknown but it runs -very- well .
14 ~ 15 MPG in mixed City & highway driving , no way to _not_ do some Hooligan driving in this great car but the low fuel economy is killing me so I'm selling it & going back to my beloved W-123 Diesel Coupe . |
1997 C230, 85,000 miles --
Normal consumption during the week (commuting and errands, 70% city, 30% highway @ 65): 23 - 24 mpg. Less in hot weather, as I'll be running the A/C, thank kew! Pure highway during September 2005, running from College Station, TX, to New Orleans, and back, averaging 65, with 1 passenger and A/C on: 31 mpg. (I miss my old 420SEL sometimes, but not when I'm gassing up.) |
1991 300e m103 3.0L
11 mpg 50/50 highway/city |
1998 C280 (V6)

1992 400E, M119 w/ 134K miles
Mileage is spot-on 20 MPG in 50/50 city/hwy driving High-test fuel Driven pretty gently by my better half. When I get behind the wheel I am very suspicious of the 268HP factory rating - I think that was very conservative. 1983 300CD, OM617 w/ 255K miles Mileage is 24.9 MPG in 50/50 city/hwy driving I drive this one like I stole it. She runs better when pushed. I don't speed much (just go w/ traffic) but I do accelerate as hard as possible. With Diesel prices higher than premium gasoline in many cases, I question the wisdom of commuting in the 123. But when I drive the 400E "as it was meant to be driven" the mileage drops accordingly. That said, I was (pleasantly) shocked by the mileage the M119 returned. Makes me wonder why anyone would have bought the 300E back in '92. Then I remembered the price differential when the cars were new.... |
1990 420sel

1990 300E. 153K miles.
23 mpg mixed 20%city/80% highway. 25-26 all highway. Cold weather (below 20 deg. F) knocks it down about 10%. Air cond. doesn't hurt it quite as much unless it's a lot of in town driving. |
not all cars are created equal....in germany
C220, 600 to 650Kms per tank, driving at 100km/h average with 91 OCT(costco gas)
VW 2.0 Jetta 445Km per tank Driving at 100km/h average ( i think this car's a peice of S%%T and was bought to releive my mercedes hwy stress) Regular Gas(Shell) BMW 528i 600Kms per tank at 120 km/h using Regular 87 Oct (Shell) This car is 5 speed.... Toyota P/U...don't ask per tank....no tune ups and rare every 2 year oil changes...using government subsizdized farm gasoline....best in the fleet... |

500sel mpg
I got a 1984 500sel euro and driving nicely or roughly i generally get 13mpg. When i first got it 12mpg was the best didn't matter if i ran 90 or 55. I climaxed 14.2 on the highway cruise set at 70 for an hour there and an hour back. Has approximately 200k on it. A hog but well worth it for the fun of watching a 6 grand shift. It has a 560 aircleaner now and a s600 grill. SWEET!
|
I haven't checked the mileage on any of my cars for decades.

1992 300E M103 with 120K mi.
About 50/50 hwy/city 91 octane CA premium 20 mpg Haven't done a highway trip long enough to go through a full tank yet, so I don't know what the highway only mileage would be, but I suspect 3-5 mpg better. |
1989 300CE (W124, M103) with 85K.
I got 20mpg (75% high way, 25%city). Normally the counter reaches ~290 miles when the reserve light goes off. One time from Houston to Dallas, the car made surprisingly ~26mpg. Need another long trip to know highway mileage better. I have to add that at the moment my EHA leaks a bit. Perhaps after fixing I can get better MPG. Will report then. Have a nice day! |
Vehicle: 1987 300E auto w/147K mi.
Results: 22 - 24 mpg depending on AC usage (sunny Florida), 91 octane or better Driving Conditions: 60% rural/frwy 40% city Comments: almost over lead-foot affliction, use cruise control often and stick to speed limits +5 |
1987 420 SEL with about 95,000 on the clock now
generally I get: 14-18 MPG city, depending on how much I push the go button 19-21 MPG highway, again, depends on how often I push it hard to pass someone. I have a spreadsheet with approximate MPG for the last 30 fill-ups or so if anyone wants to take a look. I try to keep statistical data to see if any of the repairs I make change the milage at all. I can't be too sure of how accurate each different gas pump is at measuring the dispensed quantity, and also if I fill it up the even close to the same amount each time or not. |
No Idea...
I've always lived by the rule of. "If you can afford to drive a Mercedes, why should you be concerned with fuel mileage to begin with ?" So I go by this rule with all of mine, as well as my other cars. Someone once asked me what kinda fuel mileage I get, in one of my Lamborghini Countach. My response was simply, " At two hundred miles per hour, or at one hundred miles per hour?" He just shrugged, and walked away... I was amply entertained for the afternoon, and had some laughs about it with my Fiance' while we drove around wasting gas all day, in the car. She heard his question, while she was in the car, and asked me when I got in if the guy seemed to be a bit slow or something..,"There goes Rainman". Kinda cruel we both knew that, but it was too, much to resist at the time, and we were within the sound proof confines of the car. I know my fuel mileage in my Tractor trailer, is something like 7 miles per gallon. This is only because of taxes, and staring at the fuel gauge, and others all day for so much time. Also, to plan trips, and stops. |
Truckinik - It's not so much that some of us on this board can afford to drive a mercedes, because some of us didn't pay a whole lot for ours. While you can afford some of these nice cars brand new, I paid a mere $4000 for mine which, while it's in good condition, is 20 years old. I know people who buy honda civics and ford escorts and pay three or more times that for their car new.
The point is that a good number of us are still penny pinchers. Hell, why else are we here discussing how to diagnose and repair our own cars if we are more than able to pay the outrageous labor costs associated with repairing any car? I'll be honest. I was 17 years old the first time I picked up a wrench, and it definately wasn't for pure enjoyment. |
1988 300E 90,000 miles

'90 300D 2.5 Turbo (OM602 5-cyl 2.5L motor) 32-34mpg highway. Got 36 once, but that was on a very tail-windy day ;) Averages about 30-31mpg in normal everyday driving.
'98 Volvo S70 GLT Turbo (2.4L 20-valve 5-cyl) gets about 24-25mpg on the highway. It's the dad's car, and he commutes about 70 miles round trip per day in it, so he does about 80% highway driving. '91 Volvo 240DL wagon (2.3L 4-cyl), the doggiemobile, gets about 26-27 in everyday driving. It has gotten 30mpg before on the freeway, but that was while driving 55-60mph. It is a 5 speed. '92 Ford F150 (5.8L V8). Need I say more? Best I think I've seen out of that POS is 15mpg. Mostly averages around 12mpg, seen it get to 10 or worse mpg while doing work truck errands around town. |

So what kinda fuel mileage is Normal for my 300CD's? Some are Turbo's and some of the others are Non turbos..
|
300SDL, 23.5mpg, 80% city, 20% highway, with a lead foot.
So what kind of mileage do you E55 guys get? I kind of want one, but not if they get like 10mpg around town. :D |

'99, ML430 17-22MPG 19MPG on highway roadtrips doing 75-80mph. 12MPG with boat in tow. Stinks with a 19gal tank!
'91 500SL 16-22MPG 21MPG on highway roadtrips doing 80-85mph '93 500E usually around 16MPG as it gets flogged when it does emerge from the garage (26K miles!) Otherwise a little better than the 500SL. '95 911C4 25MPG on highway roadtrips doing 80-85mph. My little farfegnugen! (econobox?) Motorcycles... Who cares it is over 40MPG! |

28.3 mpg average over 5000 miles on Chevron Premium 45% highway-55% stop and go I keep the revs under 4500 rpm and rarely go over 80 mph. Both are hard to do on this vehicle but it pays off at the pump... I am not sure if the recent upper end rebuild has anything to do with the mileage, but it sure runs smooth. |
Not sure what it was, but it's worse with the ethanol blend.. by about 10% I'm guessin.
Dumb idea, except if your a corn farmer. |
