What type of axle shafts does my 85 W123 have?
I have a rear axle shaft that split a cv joint boot and the grease has leaked out. I plan to buy a set of used axles from Jim Harris and send them out for new boots before I replace them. And I just would like to be assured that I am correct in reading that all the 1985 W123 models have what is known as the "annular joint" I don't think on can tell what type of cv joint is on the shaft until it is pulled? Fast Lane (Phil's) parts list is rather unclear on this and I think both joints use the same picture but the joints.(half shafts) are not interchangeable the way I read it. Can someone give me some clearer info on this?

Is there a bolted flange type connection close to the differential (external). That is one type. The other does not have this bolted connection. My mind is burned out right now (annual outage time) and I don't remember the proper terminology for the two different types. The car originally came without the flanged connection.

Don't know
It is raining out now and getting late for me. I don't think there is a flanged connection outside the diff. But tomorrow AM, after my school bus run, I will get it up and have a good look. Thanks much!
