noise from torque converter
 

The torque converter on my 260E started intermittently making a loud tap-tap-tap kind of noise similar to the sound of a collapsed valve lifter. It sounded a bit like the sound you would expect if a bolt was coming loose and striking something as it went round. The transmission fluid was low, so I topped it up and the noise seems to have gone. I was just wondering why a torque converter should make a sound like that?
