Since my previous post was deleted (by the corruption or whatever), I will repost this.

My 1995 C280's trunk does not open fully when released. You must pull it up manually like all older Mercedes.
Well I was on to something with G-Benz.
I decided to change the adjustment of the springs.

To see a picture of what I did, click on link, scroll down about 1/2 way and look inside of the trunk. You'll see where the spring is attached, well I moved it over to the right to the furthest notch.

This definitly helped. And it was a pain!! Those springs are strong and I cut and bruized my hands and even strained my back a little pulling on the damn things! *still hurts* ;(
Well the result is positive. When I pushed the release, the trunk didn't move at all, it was just the same, but when I tapped the lid up ever so lightly it opened full swing. Well I attempted to put a weight on the lid (I heard a spoiler made them open faster?), but to no avail. It only seemed to pull it down more.

Well my car was in the driveway this evening, so I went out to test how it might work on the slight (real slight, about 4% incline, car facing DOWN driveway). Well I pushed the release and it opened fully without any assistance!

Now, my question... Does anyone know what I might do to get the thing to open fully on a flat surface?
Thank you!

Since tapping on the lid caused the trunk lid to fully open, then all you need to do is relieve the initial resistance

My guess would be to lube the hinges, or maybe even loosen the hinge bolts (slightly), enough to lessen the drag.

Otherwise, the torsion spring can be wound up a bit more for the tension you need...but based on your recent experience (that thing looks like it came off a garage door) I would stay away from the spring!

David,

A rear spoiler is additional weight and additional weight does not make the trunk lid open any easier; believe me...I have a spoiler.

Maybe you can add #1 spring pads in the front and #3 spring pads in the rear so that the car is always standing downhill :D . What is wrong with the trunk handle; MB designed it there to open the trunk lid…

greetingz,
