Hey!

What do you guys think about RESTORE's Engine Restorer and Lubricant? Is it another snake oil? The reason I ask is because my 16V has developed a bit of blow-by. It's not nearly bad enough to warrant a rebuild, so I thought that I might be able to use a product such as RESTORE and maybe eliminate some of it.
Has anyone had any experience with this product? Are there any other similar products that anyone recommends? Can this be used in conjunction with ZMax?

Thanks!

The only way I would try it would be if my engine absolutely needed a rebuild. If you are going to have to overhaul it anyway there is nothing to lose except the price of the product.

Do a search on Engine Additives. There has been quite a bit of discussion on this.

Mercedes-Benz specifically forbids the use of engine additives. I think Z-max is a load of crap, I think almost all of them are. Though I did use MOS2 one time.

Just be sure and do the search!

don't do it...don't do it...don't do it!!!

Product such as those do NOT work. At best, they are a benign waste of money and, more often the case, they actually cause harm.

don't do it!

What causes blow-by??

Thanks for the replys!
It think the general concensus is not to use additives.
Ok, here's another question: What causes the rings to not seal anymore? And how can I determine the cause?
Do rings simply wear out? Or are the cylinder walls damaged? Should I expect to have to machine the block? Are the cylinder walls glazed? If I can have this problem fixed by simply replacing the rings and honing the cylinder walls, then I'll definately do it this summer. Otherwise I'm going to live with the blow-by, as I'm not about to drop $1000+ on new pistons!
Where should I start?

Thanks,

Dan ,....it's really hard to tell the condition of engine internals . Who knows, ..it could be a pandora box when you open and inspect. Yes, ..these parts normally wears out due to aged and normal use. The best thing to do is to measure the clearances in order to discover if they still within specs, ..and of course, ..anything that is not, ..need to be replace ot re-condition as the case may be...

if those type additivies worked major oil companies would add them to their oil.we have always been a country to try the latest snake oil, maybe that a sign of good character........
