1988 300TE Rear Windows stopped

Hi guys,

When I purchased this 1988 300TE (67k miles) the rear drivers side window did not go down or up. Not a high priority on my list to do, but now the rear passenger side window has stopped also.

I have checked the child lock and still no luck.

What would be the first thing I should do?

Thanks, Robert

If all of the interior lights are on can you see a light in the rear switches??? In the front switches as well?

If not then you are having a ground issue.

Thanks for the the reply M.B. Doc

Well I just checked and the middle console buttons light up, but in the rear doors, they do not.

This may sound silly, but try washing the window, both sides.

During the winter the rubber tends to stick to the glass and makes it difficult, if not impossible to open. Also run a thin piece of plastic between the rubber and the glass to be sure there is no adhesion! I also apply Rain X to my glass to reduce friction and therefore help the window motors so they don't burn out.

Have you got a wiring diagram? Have you pulled the door panel and viewed whether you have a mechanical versus an electrical issue. There are very little in common between the two windows electrically.

I had a window cable snap on one. I ordered a replacement. While I was installing the replacement, the other side just froze up and had to replace it as well. It's not outside the realm of possibility that both can fail around the same time as strange as that may seem.
