C280 Single Spark Plug Not firing

Hi

this type of problem has been posted quite a few times, and I have spent close to a week searching for a possible result for my case, have not found it yet. Summary bellow

1. Car started of by going into rough idling/acceleration occationally, and reset to normal after a re-start.

2. I have already, (15-months ago) changed the Wiring Harness to a brand new one, even thoough at the time there were no issues obvious issues, but an oil leak work revealed best to change than wait.

3. Not expecting it would be another harnes issue, I decided it was time to change the plugs, tranformers, plug cables and boots. I changed all. Vehicle now idles, and accelerates rough constantly. In particular plug number 5 does not seem to be firing, as seen by foul plug face when removed. Kind of looks a little wet.

4. Took it to dealer to see if they can isolate the problem, but after two hours, said they need to do a lot more diagnosis, and need a full day with the Car.

Question: Is there a simple procedure I can use to double confirm that Cylinder 5 is the only issue, and also what could cause only a single cylinder to not-fire, any remedies suggested?

Check engine light read by dealer only says "numerous misfires" they will not tell me which cylinder is misfiring. Even though I think its #5 from what I saw/stated above.

Any help is really appreciated, unfortunately not a very good time for me to spend lots of $$$ on 3days with a dealer.

thanks in advance

Also,
........Make sure you changed the plug to coil connectors...if not , do it when you change to the correct plugs...

The part I am talking about is not the boots
It is the Resistor Connector that goes under the coil and connects the coil to the plug. No wire or boots , just a connector/resistor...those are the ones that go bad and cause the mis-fires.
They do not come with the wire set unless you get the complete set.
Boots are the covers at the coil for the wires to the other 3 plugs.

http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=21H0MN3YU21R1A0NBT&year=1995&make=MB&model=C-280-001&category=F&part=Ignition+Wire+Set

As you can see the first set includes the connectors ...a standard ignition wire set does not. I see many guys who say they have changed the ignition wires ,,but they unknowingly have not changed the coil connectors [ which was the problem all along] ......... that is why I specify.

C280 Single Spark Plug Not firing

Thanks Arthur,

I went to your link, and what I replaced was the first Item on that link. The whole complete Set. I got it for $75 Exactly as it looks in that Picture.

I replaced all those six pieces. I was unfortunately calling the three that go bellow the coils, boots. Sorry for the error.

Any reason only 1 Cylinder appears to be having the issue ?

And again thanks all for the help and advice so far

ONCE Again...POST # 5 ..yes, that is a very good possibility.
There can be, of course, other things to cause the same problem, but those are things like a bad ECU, MAF , etc...and I can not tell you that the plugs will definately solve the problem b/c my physic powers , along with my xray vision are not up to par since I got a dose of that Kriptonite...

What I am saying is PLAT DO NOT WORK WELL in you 104 engined car and before you go nutz with all the other possibles, put the CORRECT PLUGS in your car and save yourself a lot of trouble and $$$ trying to diagnose the problem with the incorrect plugs in it... if it still does it with the correct plugs, you have cheaply narrow it down..but there is a very good chance you will solve the problem..
