ASR/BAS Indicator meaning

I have a 98 E300 DT. The ASR/BAS indicator light came on 2 weeks ago, intermittently. Now it comes on everytime I start the car and it stays on. Can someone help me with the meaning of this indicator?

You have to pull codes to determine the exact cause and diagnosis. A technician can do that.

Off-hand, the most common cause of this light coming on is a defective brake light switch.

Thanks. I will try the brake light switch. This is most likely located near the brake pedal. Do you know if that is correct?

Yes, the switch is in front of the pedal ( up high ).
