1990 560sel rear coil spring removal
 

as i have mentioned my 560sel has been modified, the previous owner took out the pneumatic shocks and put in standard and some red coil springs. i am putting some 380 rear coil springs in this weekend i just need to know what to loosen to gfet the springs out i do not have a spring compressor.

You probably should not attempt this job without a spring compressor. Springs arf mucho dangerous.

You remove the shock and compress the spring and then remove. Simple if you have the proper spring compressor. The springs off the 380 might not be strong enough since the 380 engine is lighter than the 560.

You need the correct spring compressor.

The original post said rear coils, so the 380 springs should be OK.

But, the rest of the hydraulic system needs to be removed as well.

what part of the rest are you talking about

Well, the pump is the only part that Really needs to come off...pull it and install a block off plate from a 420.

johnlo from what I read about your reaction regarding your rear coil springs, with out disrespect, I do not think your even qualified to start to do the project for safety reasons. You might get hurt if you do not know what your doing, springs that sprung can KILL, it moves like a 50MM mortar bomb than what your mind will ever comprehend. Go get a pro to do it for you, stay safe otherwise you won't be around to enjoy your ride.

you are right i don't have alot of car knowledge just a bunch of enthuisam to get this car right. just don't have thousands of dollars to keep running to the mechanics.

Just in case all the other posts did not warn you, not only are springs dangerous, you have to compress them to get them into and out of the pockets, there are also rubber pads that need to go in, and the last warning, when you disconnect the shocks the rear end will drop since it is limited by the shock travel. I hope you have the tools and jacks to support it and the car to push it back into place. I would rent a MB spring compressor, or wait untill you have saved to have it done.
I have seen one let loose, and luckily no one was in the way, There is a tool swap and rental section right on this forum. I would not do it alone just in case of emergency!

There is a stop welded to the control arm to limit travel. Look at the front of the trailing arm.
