Hello,

Ok I have a 300 CE coupe 1988 - lovely beast.

The dash lights need replacing - how do I get to them.

Also one rear window doesn't work, it did but doesn't now - is the motor a one piece thing and if so, how do you route the window steel cable through it - or can you just replace the motor top part - the one with the gyro in it...

Thanks,

Cool forum.

Kieron

Very strange that this thread hasn't been replied yet...

You can do a search (search button in the right top of your screen) about the dash lights and you will find a lot of different opinions and solutions...but basically you van take out the dash cluster with two (MB specific) hooks while taking care not to damage the dash and to pull the speedo cable to much. Put your hand behind the cluster to unscrew the speedo cable (don't pull the cable too much or you will experience a vibrating needle afterwards), take out the cluster a little further after the speedo cable is disconnected and take off the plugs. Take out the dash cluster completely and change the bulbs.
You can try to remove the lower dash panel, release the flexible ventilation hose over the steering column, get your hand up to unscrew the speedo cable and push out the dash cluster to the front...

Are you sure that he rear window motor is broken or is there any chance that the switch is worn???

greetingz,

Hi,

Thanks for replying - lovely car by the way.

Ok, I have tested the switches - they work fine when swapped over to another window, also there is power going to the motor as my voltage tester lights up, also when I operate the switch to complete a circuit to the motor the voltage tester lights up also.

To get the window up I had to pop the top of the motor and wind the giro by hand, otherwise it would he been permanently down.

From looking at the motor the steel cable seems to run through the center base of it - I can't see how this detaches and my concern is that if I buy a new motor will I have to cut the steel cable and re-attach it after I have threaded it through the motor.

And these coupe's look so good with both windows down!

If the rear power window in the W124 is about the same as on the W202, mercedes only sells complete systems (motor, guidance rail and steel cable) and no separate parts...I guess that you need to order the complete system, but you can check fastlane for that.

greetingz,
