Question Fuel system cleaners...Do they work!

Hey everyone...my MB mechanic told me to get my feul system cleaned/flushed...I only got 67000km on it...use Vpower shell gas & change the feul fileter every 2yrs...its a 2002 2.3 liter komporessor engine in a W203 coupe 6spd maual. Let me know ur opinions, suggestions. Or should I just get a bottle of fuel system cleaner and dump it into the gas tank on my next fill up.???

Bigger question: Is your fuel system "dirty"? If so, how do you know

Techron seems to be well regarded.

It comes in Chevron fuel.

I think most of the additives are designed to add money to the wallets of the sellers.

Use it if you're supposed to use Premium and you only use the low grade. Use it if you idle the car regularly. Use it if you experience fuel-related symptoms of fuel-starvation. Use it if you're paranoid. Use it if you love spending money for little gain.

Unless you have a good reason, skip it.

The only fuel system cleaner that will not destroy the fuel parts is to NOT use any. Trust me. Don't use any kind. I used the original MB and barely noticed the difference.

If you want to clean it, just buy a new set of injectors and a new set of spark-plugs.

Just by using Shell V-Power, you're already buying a gasoline with a lot of detergents in it.
Don't waste any money on additional cleaners.

Cleaning injectors is a service that requires you to remove them from the unit and have them pressured with a special item built for cleaning them internally. You can get them done from one of the members of this forum,I can not remember his name but his place is in VA. some one else will recall the gents name.JNT
PS.just found this contact ctaylor738,I think he may help your problem.

If you're dying to spend $$$ on something like this, focus on one of the mainstream products such as LM, RedLine or Techron. They're all fairly e-z to find. Unless you've got other issues, most will probably not notice any difference in operation.

Fuel system cleaners work great. But I only use Techron when it's needed. One bottle will usually clean out a dirty fuel injection system in just a vew miles. Its a wast of money to put it in every tankful.

Its a waste of money. All you have to do is change gas brands once in awhile. Every company uses a slightly different additive package and they all will leave deposites, of some sort. But if you switch brands they will clean eachother up.

Remember all gas is pumped down the same pipe line, they just add some additives after its put into the tanker truck.

I think they work.

I've had good luck with Lucas UCL.
