High Miles 1999 C230
Anyone have a high miles 1999 C230 K sedan? I am wondering what does on these cars first. The transmission or the roots supercharger?
Thanks Jason, still looking for a C36 or C43 but a good C230K from 1999 or 2000 will do for now |

I've seen more supercharger issues than transmission issues personally, but that is not to say someone else has seen more tranny issues.

I have a 99 C230k with 130,000 miles on it. Runs well. The supercharger did go out at 100,000 miles and cost $2,000 to replace it. Seized without any warning. Other than that it has been a very reliable and nice car to drive.

I'd be more concerned with having to rebuild the front suspension (all bushings, bearings, control arms) after 7-8 years than worrying about the supercharger or tranny.
S/T are "potential" issues, but suspension components after this time frame are a guaranteed repair and could easily reach $1500 for the front. If maintenance has been done on the trans and it's had synthetic oil, I wouldn't be terribly concerned |
Thanks everone for responding. I guess if the car has full service records from the same dealer and its a one owner car I should be able to tell what all has been replaced. As well as tell what will need attention sooner than later.
I was looking around at prices for these particular models. It would appear people think they are worth much more than edmunds.com. Whats good to say to bring the price down? The roots supercharger ought to have been replaced by X amount of miles? The transmission has to have good service records? The entire front end will need replacement at X miles? Is there more? Thanks very much. Jason |
I would try to find a CPO car from the dealer. These would all be 2000s now, last year eligible for CPO, and as long as you're not picky about color and options, you can probably find a good deal on an aging unit.
That's what I did, and it was a great overall deal, even if white wasn't my first choice. |
Providing you are looking at a well maintained car, the W202 chassis cars have been universally praised as among the best MB ever built.
I find it hard to go wrong with one of these cars. |
$300 in mechanical repairs (non-maintenance items) in the last 47k. At 150k now.
So, I would agree with Suginami's assessment |
