300TE-4M Xmission modulator.
Guys,
I have 1992 300TE 4-Matic, Xmission 722.342. Shifts hard (jerks on upshifts). I am guessing vacuum modulator (unit acts as if "floored" all the time. Question: how to replace? (once I remove the small front driveshaft). The new part looks like it has a "half moon" shaped groove / protrusion on the back, is it a simple twist & remove operation? Any adjusting needed? (new part comes with a small push rod). Many Thanks in Advance, Mike L. |
Modulators are almost never the reason for modulator problems! The common cause is defective vacuum hook-ups.
The modulator is attached to the trans with a semi-cicular bracket attached by one or two bolts. Once it is released the modulator just pulls out. It may take a little twisting and effert as it does have an o-ring seal that needs to be tight. Be sure you replace the same rod as what came out if you have a new one. I think there are two differt types with different lengths. Got to be the same length. Adjust to taste. |
