89 300CE Please help identify engine component
Hi all,
I am still unfamiliar with my 1989 300CE, W124.050, engine 103.983. This afternoon I removed the air cleaner and took a picture of what underneath. I have numbered the engine components, most of which I don't know nothing about. Please could you provide the names of them, just what you know. All inputs are greatly appreciated. Please scroll to the right if the pix is too big for your screen. That much I know or I think I know :) , please fell free to correct 1) a thermo vacuum valve, also controls the fuel tank purge for the charcoal canister 2) aux fan sensor 3) Coolant Temperature Sensor 4) Fuel injector 5) cold start injector 6) electrical connector for #7 7) idle control valve 8) Fuel distributor 9) EHA 10) throttle linkage for cruise control actuator 11) vacuum to trans modulator (corrected, did not notice earlier) 12) Intake magnifold (one of six) 13) Bowden cable to transmission 14) Oil filter 15) electrical plug for throttle position sensor 16) fuel return to tank 16a) fuel mixture enrichment 17) fuel injector line 1 of 7 ( 7 is to cold start injector) 18) Fuel line to distributor 19) fuel dampener (often mistaken as a fuel regulator) 20) throttle air flow sensor plate 21) throttle cable to accelerator pedal 22) vacuum source for climate control and economy guage 23) brake booster hose connection 24) fuel return, see #16 and #19 info provided by Carson357, richard28 and Falsapartenza - Thanks a lot from a newbie. http://www.vsgardens.com/Pix/300CE/IMG_8262.JPG |
I have 92 300CE but is different engine I believe
My 92 is basically the same, but I don't recognize some of those numbered parts either ... interested in the answers in some cases.

Hi blueeagle,
your 92 300CE has the newer engine M104, with 24 valves I think. |
Item# 21
Item#21 is the kick-down (bowden cable). When you accelerate hard (pedal to floor) this cable ensures that the transmission kicks the gears into appropriate 1st or 2nd gear to move quickly.

note corrections
1) sensor for fuel tank charcoal canister purge 2) aux fan sensor 3) Coolant Temperature Sensor 4) Fuel injector 5) cold start injector 6) electrical connector for #7 7) idle control valve 8) Fuel distributor 9) EHA 10) throttle linkage for cruise control actuator 11) vacuum to trans modulator (corrected, did not notice earlier) 12) Intake magnifold (one of six) 13) Bowden cable to transmission 14) Oil filter 15) electrical plug for throttle position sensor 16) fuel return to tank 16a) fuel mixture enrichment 17) fuel injector line 1 of 7 ( 7 is to cold start injector) 18) Fuel line to distributor 19) fuel dampener (often mistaken as a fuel regulator) 20) throttle air flow sensor plate 21) throttle cable to accelerator pedal 22) vacuum source for climate control and economy guage 23) brake booster hose connection 24) fuel return, see #16 and #19 |
spoken by someone who really knows the 103. thanks, i feel like i went to school today.

Wow, The list is complete! Thanks Carson.

OK, what are the yellow things with the white tie-wraps?
|
The 2 yellow thingies and the red one are magnets, supposed to increase fuel efficiency :pirate: . But I don't see any improvement at all.
|
11) I believe this is the vacuum connection to the transmission
|
#1 is listed in the parts catalogs as the thermo vac valve, I believe.

Ray, this valve has a bolt going into the engine plus the separate interior piece where the rubber vacuum hoses are attached, and on mine this interior is not tight but is loose, that is, it can be turned. Does ithis mean it needs to be replaced? Thanks.

likely, see if it will hold vacuum plug one side ans draw vacuum on the other using a hand vacuum pump |
