1987 300E with 202,000 miles

In perfect running order. Had oil changes every three thousand miles for the last twenty years. I bought it from Enrique today. Took it to my smog tech and it passed right away. All we did was change the oil and it passed with the original cat. Amazing really. It has a new battery and decent brakes. It's arctic white and was professionally repainted recently. I think it was garaged it's entire life. It's a one owner car. The fit and finish is better, I think, than the E320. It's even better finish than the 1988 300CE I had.

I think the shocks and struts may be old or simply need some driving to get them charged again. They squeak.

The steering box or wheel has some play. I can really feel it when braking quickly from higher speed. Wonder what it is exactly. Will take it in to Enrique tomorrow to see what it is.

It does have some cheapo new tires. I think changing out the wheels would be good.

Wolfgang serviced the transmission.

All in all its a great old driver for cheap and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks,
Jason

Congrats.

I think I saw that car at his shop when I was recently there.

The loose steering wheel, especially the way that you describe the symptoms, may simply be due to worn out front suspension components. The steering box has an adjustment screw, but that may not be your car's issue

In any event, these are great car. I own a couple of W124's and I'd not mind adding a sedan to complete the "collection."

Enjoy the ride!

I paid three thousand, signed it over and drove right to my smog tech and it passed on the first go. Great car.

The thing is, I had a 1988 300CE that I totalled and insurance paid me nearly three times what I paid for it. So I got the 87 300E for about what insurance paid after the initial cost of the coupe. All in all a good deal.

I think the brand new Fuzion HRi tires are bugging me a little. And the 15 inch rims. The steering must be adjusted and the front end will get an alignment in the a.m.
I'm hoping the front end is decent for a little while. Enrique and myself spent a good deal of time under the car today and it all looked good to me.

The interior is pristine. The original owner had it as a third car. They have a 1992 and a 2000 MBZ. It also looks that after 1998 or so it was driven less but still recieved all maintenance from Enrique.

I like the car but with the miles on the motor and transmission I dont think there is much I'll do to 'upgrade" it. Any suggestions?

BTW What's the right name for the white paint on this car?

Thanks,
Jason

You really can't go wrong since it was serviced by Enrique. The guy is really honorable and a top notch Mercedes mechanic to boot.

Gotta love the 124s!

I can't bring myself to give mine up. I have two since I 'inherited' my wife's when she bought her '05 Acura TL.

What was she thinking?!

My wife is getting a new car and

so I just might have to get a another W124 too. This 1987 has got to be the most mint car I've ever owned. It even gets smiles from BMW drivers. Really sharp car. I don't want it under any trees at night. I think it needs a good car cover and a spot in the driveway until we move to a house with a large garage.
It really is triple mint. I'm going to wash it and drive over to Enrique's shop right now while I have the time.

Regards,
Jason

Mint 124

Hi,
You must have the twin to my '87 300E. It just turned 180K and there is not a mark on it. I am the second owner and it has been garaged all of its life. I even have the original AC compressor and it blows like a ice blizzard. I am not sure, but it may have the original windshield wiper as it is a desert car. The interior is spottless and it still looks good in the parking lot at the mall.

And....

Put euro headlights on them and they look ten years younger...

The general public does not perceive that these are old cars. The styling is not too dated.

Just wonder why did MB come up with the square headlights for US in the first place. It's completely an eyesore. It is my next project too, still putting together the 300 bucks beside the issue of getting rid of the functioning old ones.

BTW it reminds me of the US bumpers for W107, totally disastrous in style.

Three little letters: DOT

I bought DEPO Euro ligths for my 300CE. Several memebers here highly recommended them.

I picked them up directly from ImportVision (they are not too far from where I am) so I had a chance to inspect them. I have Bosch Euros for the 300TE and to be completely honest the difference is very minimal.

So you pay $500 for Bosch or $200 (what I paid) for DEPO. There is a lot I could do with that extra $300.00.

Take care and, again, let me know if you eed a help wiht the conversion process. I can walk you through it.

I have expensive HELLA euro lights on one and DEPO lights on the other.

The lighting performance is VERY similar.

The molding on the HELLA housings is crisper.

All things considered, the DEPOs are the way to go.
