Ok, well first of all, you need to find some free webspace (many have been listed in this post), then you need to upload your pictures to that webspace.
The rest of the info is in the FAQ of Mercedesshop. But to sum it up:

When you get your pictures uploaded, copy the link of your picture into your post (ie... http://www.homestead.com/bigshot/1, or whatever it may be), and put [img.] in front of it and [/img.] behind it.

EXAMPLE: [img.]http://www.homestead.com/pic1[/img.]

NOTE: Disregard the periods, '.' in the img brackets, I did that because it would post a blank pic otherwise.

It takes a little time, but it's not that bad.
Just first get some free webspace, and then look in the FAQ for detailed info on how to post the pix.

I don't have any formal training, just a little mechanical inclination. When I was in highschool I had a '79 CJ-7 and took it apart from top to bottom, mostly out of necessity as they are a train wreck and curiosity. I was a little nervous but no worries. With this forum, a manual and about 12 hours I got it done. I replaced everthing in the head except the timing chain and the timing gear. I mean everything. It all came from the Fastlane and I would say about $950 or so in parts. The machine shop resurfaced the face, put in the valve guides, valves, springs, and cleaned it. ($165) Not bad, I thought. I hope yours doesn't go too. It is a pain but now I figure the worst is behind me. We bought our car in November from some slap who obviously put the screws to us. He said "the rear windows don't work, I don't know why". I figured a wire or switch or something like that. Nope, I took the door panel off last weekend. There is a 2X4 wedged in holding up the windows. Gotta love it. Tomorrow begins the exploration to see what is really wrong with it. Thanks for the comments on the pix. I just thought it was neat and if someone can benefit from it great. Although this car has been alot of work I am glad we bought it. I love it. They really do ride like no other car.

1988 190e 2.3 - 225K miles, owned for 7 years. I cannot say enough good things about this car. Very well built, even at 225 it ran like new.

This is the 1969 280 SEL I'm currently working on. It's a work in progress but the fact that it only had 80K original miles was astonishing to me. I jumped at the opportunity to own a Benz with such low mileage. But outside of the powertrain the car was trashed. I'll keep you all updated on this project.

Compare and contrast hmmm? Man, they are so different yet one thing jumps out at me: they are both eminently tunable. By that I mean they both have similar levels of technology and they respond to old fashioned mechanic-ing. (Is that a word?) Make a timing adjustment, tweak the air-fuel mixture, it doesn't matter. The Mercedes seems more refined, the Jaguar gives away its racing heritage. It is after all, a massaged D-type for road use. I love it dearly and would never get rid of it.

My father used to have a 1971 E-Type V12 Coupe. I think it had 6 SU carbs, or maybe it was 4, not sure. He had the engine fully rebuilt, and that thing was a smooth ferocious cat.

I miss that car, it is an amazingly beautiful car. It was bright red, with black interior, chrome wire wheels, and it had the 1971 grille which I really liked.

In case you missed the above post from Kyle, I just visited the page and looked at the pictures. They answered a lot of questions for a newbie like me and they're great shots of a head before-and-after being refurbished. Before looking at them, I didn't know exactly what was meant by a 'double timing chain', and now I have seen one and will never wonder again.

Here are a couple of questions for any of you who can visit the site and look at the pictures. Please keep in mind, I'm a newbie at these things.

1)Was removing the head and having it cleaned/refurbished a part of what would be called a 'valve job'? If so, is this what was recommended in another thread as something that should be done as well when the head gasket needs replacing because of a leak.

2)Is this a normal amount of wear on the pistons/valves for a certain number of miles on the engine. I have 105,000 miles on my E320 engine. What should mine look like if it has a 'normal' amount of wear.

3)How much of that carbon looking material will be removed by use of Techron etc. on a regular basis?

4)Should the timing chain be replaced whenever the head is removed. It seems like the bulk of the work is the head removal and that it might be smart to replace whatever makes financial sense while the head is off.

I do agree that a picture is worth more than a thousand words when it comes to mechanical details. I really appreciate your taking these pictures and taking the time to post them for all of us to see Kyle.
