1987 300E with 202K and squeaks
Just thought I'd ask what could be done for the suspension. It rides well and is in fine order but there are noisy squeaks at the rear shocks/ springs. The shocks have been replaced but don't know how long ago. The boots look fine but it doesn't mean they aren't shot. However, the ride is decent. Could be my old CE had shot shocks too so I dont really know. Do I need new shocks and if so what's a good source for them? I was considering a four corner set of springs and shocks with seventeen inch rims but it seems expensive for a car with such high miles. The car is extremely well maintained and has great get up and go. It's a pristine example.
Even though I do prefer the CE since it's got a lower roof-line and seems to have a bit longer wheelbase the four-door is more sensible. My two sons are just getting bigger every day. The car is just a stop-gap for me but I'd like to make it stick to the road more than it currently does. Thanks for any and all advice. Jason |
Most likely squeak in the rear suspension from my experience is from the control arm bushings. Of course there are a number of other elements of the rear suspension which at 202k miles will likely need attention. Do a search, you'll find a lot of discussion within this forum.

I bought the DEPOs and I am very happy with them. |
Most all the bushings looked good to me. I'll take a close look today and report what i see. Thanks
