My 86MB 190E 2.3 front strut buffer has worn through. In addition to replacing the strut buffer will I need to replace the strut mount and strut rubber boot? The strut mount looks OK. Should the front strut be replaced? Should I be preventative and replace both sides?

It depends on if you are having suspension problems. If the strut mounts are ok then leave them, the strut buffer only function is the prevent the struts form bottoming out. If you are bottoming out in the front end you may need struts and/or front springs. The rubber boots usually don't wear out, there is a piece that supports them That breaks.

stut mount
I stand corrected. Yes the stut mount is the one that has broken through. I canīīt see the strut buffer so I am not sure. It is not bottoming out yet.
I am looking at a catalogue and the cost is not too high to get everything replaced anyway (on both sides). buffer -$9.91 mount - 27.39 boot - $3.70. Thanks! I appreciate your advice! |
