I posted the below in the DIESEL DISCUSSION, but I thought I'd run it by the experts in here as well:

After adjusting my ALDA a couple of weeks ago, I had my '84 300D running very well; she was nice and peppy off the line...for a diesel. Now it seems that gremlins have snuck in under the hood and adjusted the ALDA back to its original position. Is it normal for this car to need several adjustments in succession? The fuel mileage also dropped along with the power curve, so I re-enriched the mixture to bring her back to life again. Am I going to face the prospect of continually adjusting this thing? Am I doing harm? Any help is appreciated.

My memory is a bit rusty in this area, but isn't there a
locknut in the ALDA? Is it possible you didn't adequately
tighten it?

I did this adjustment to my 84 300D once, it ran better
immediately, and never changed to the day I sold it...

Yes, I suppose it's possible, but not likely. I tightened it back up pretty good. I'm sticking to the gremlin theory.

Perhaps the spring inside the ALDA is so fatigued that several adjustments will be needed...who knows?
