Need some opinions - 89 560SEL
 

Hello All,

Here in town a local dealer has a 89 560SEL for sale. You can see it at www.robsight.com ......go to there used section and you can find it there. How much is this car truly worth? Any major issues with this year? I have driven the car and all seems well. Things I've noticed are: needs tires balanced, squeaky front right strut. If you look at the pics they dont do the car justice. It's incredible. It's a two owner car and has been serviced regularly.

well, with that mileage I'd say it's probably going to need front end work. Figure between $500 to $1500. Have the timing chain checked for stretch as well.I'd offer $1000 less and see if they bite. Make sure that you have an MB specialist look it over. There are no real problems with the model (other than the gas mileage. It's a huge engine so it' ll suck the gas!), but any Mercedes-Benz can be expensive if you don't have it checked out first.

It seems you've all but bought this car. I agree with Damlier on price and getting it inspected. If you're ready to buy this car I would get it inspected and then go back to them with the list of things wrong and have them adjust the price accordingly.

Are there any records with the car? That would help confirm what has been with the car.

Another thing you might want to do is get the vin # and head over the the local benz dealer. They can type in the number and tell you what has been done at the dealership over the years. If you're real lucky you might be able to find out the previous owner name and he can tell the real story on the car and perhaps he may have some of the service records available.

From the pics it looks pretty nice and it has my favourite coloured interior - palamino tan. Easier to keep cool and not as somber as the dark interiors. I've got a cream one myself.

Apart from the gas mileage and being a bit cumbersome to drive around town (it is a big car you know) I can't really flaw these cars. I love mine :)

Personally I didn't like it.

by 89 this car was pretty much bug free, big awesome and lovely, do your homework and if serviced regularly and cared for you will not be disapointed

Make sure the rear suspension is original and functioning. Some people have tried to install regular springs and shocks and I don't think anyone can make that work as well as the original suspension.

Its due for a timing chain if no record of that exists. Big W126's gas are hard to sell these days because they suck premium fuel. $5k would be a very fair offer.
