190e - Help debugging aux fan not working
To all,
I have read most of the threads in the forum about aux fans not working and have tried most things but the fans in my 190e 2.6 are not coming on. Here's what I have done: 1. Connected power direct to the fans - work fine. 2. Pulled the wires from the red A/C pressure switch and jumped them, fans came on when ignition turned on. 3. Pulled connector from the blue temp sensor on the head - no fans. Jumped it - no fans. 4. Replaced the resistor - was looking a little burned. Any thoughts on what to try next?

Aux. fan relay? I had to replace mine because the fan wouldn't stop running...contacts were stuck. So maybe yours isn't operating.

I'm having the same problem,,, but I'm a 1988 190e 2.3 I was not able to locate the Aux fan relay with a fuse on top..it is under relay compartment cover, behind fuse box..
I did locate an additional relay compartment in front of the fuse box, it has two relays and 4 fuses (2 red 2 blue) I jumpered the two wires on the RED temp sensor and the electro mech fan on the serpantine belt engaged, but the aux fan did not. Applying 12 volts to the aux fan resistor turns on the aux fan, as does jumpering the refridge hi temp switch,,, I'm confused, my car doesn't appear to conform to the schematics for 1988 cars,,, maybe I'll check 1987 schematic ,,,

Problem solved
Problem solved - I ended up taking it to a local shop - it was the Aux Fan Relay - just ahead of the fuse box with it's own cover. Mine was black - unlike the orange/red replacement. The fans would come on when jumping the pressure switch on the receiver/dryer, but not when the temp switch was unplugged on the head. Replaced the relay and all is well.
I also install a lower temp thermostat as well to keep it running cooler. The MB part number is: 1162000015 Also, not sure where he got it - but a wiring diagram was key in finding the relay.
