odo and air flow

I just purchased a 1987 300E. The odometer just quit, and no air flows from the center vents. I had the same air flow problem with my 91 300TE, but I would rather try to repair myself this time because the dealer cost dearly. Any advice on either topic?

The odometer is probably a bad gear within the speedo. If you feel confident removing the cluster take the speedo out and send it to a repair facility.

The center vent problem is a vacuum leak.
