Valve seal question.....

I am getting ready to replace my valve seals on my 92 300E 2.6..and what I would like to know is I have been told that the diesel valve seals work so much better...now I am asking "in what way do they work better?" and which diesel engine do I get the seals from????Thanks Guys

Just use OE Mercedes intake and exhaust seals and be done with it.:)

The 'diesel' seals will work better...they'll help the engine consume vast quantities of engine oil better.:bangin:

Why ? You know better than Mercedes? Besides, the diesel valves are just under 10mm and most gas motor valve stems are 8mm or 9mm.

If the diesel seals will stop oil from going down the valve guide very well, you will get more guide wear. There needs to be a little drop of oil in the guide to lub the stem/guide bore. The OE seals do a good job when new and if there is little guide wear they will continue to do so for around 100,000 miles.

There where some seals we used on the VW 1.8l engine that sealed so well that in race engines we would nick the neck of the seal with a razor blade to allow a little oil to pass because the valve stems would sieze sometimes until we did this to the seals....admittedly the engines where turning to 9000 rpm.

Point is: Using the correct seals will do the job....you don't have to guess they might :)
