I recently purchased a 1986 560 sl, with 129k miles, that had some obvious suspension problems that I thought would be easily solved. I have had replaced the motor mounts, subframe bushings, lower ball joints, both tie rod ends, front bilstein shocks, the steering shock and the idler arm bushings. All of this has been a big waste of time and much money. The car has not been wrecked or otherwise altered. The problem is that every little bump in the road is felt as if the frame is cracked. It has been inspected. All of the shaking is felt in the steering wheel. I have owned over 10 mercedes and this is the first to not have a good ride. The ride is smooth until I hit a bump. HELP! I would like to keep this car but I am cosidering cutting my loses.

I had the same problem with my 380 sec...mine was all the parts you replaced and also the uper control arms, center drag link and tie rod bushings. mine would bounce at a speed of 35 to 40 then it would stop. now that all the parts were replaced it hasnt done it again.
good luck the same problem drove me crazy also benzat (benz with an attitude) 1982 380 SEC |

I would have the coupler and the steering shaft checked that connects the steering wheel to the sector. I have seen the bushings wear out of the coupler.
