722.6 dipstick - 3 kinds. What to get?
Hi there,
I am planning to get a dipstick for my 722.6 Tranny. Saw in DIY the part number (J2024-110887) which is $ 70.23 and from WIS and other sites the part number (140-589-1521-00) which is $43.00 and in Special tools (Part number 140-1521) the dipstick for a 722.6 tranny is ony $37.50. All these are from Fastlane. They all seem to have the same function. Do I just get the cheapest one? Can anyone tell what the difference is in these 3 parts? Thanks! Francis 2002 E240 W211 |
The handles have '722.6' in raised lettering.
I took that to mean that they will suit all models prefixed with 722.6 (there are numbers after the 6). |
I'm with Len, that's where I got my dipstick/tool. Since it's 47", Parrot, it will work on every 722.6XX series transmission, i.e., like mine, 722.624-

Thanks guys! I already did a buy now from the Link. Any suggestions for the Infrared thermometer? I was looking at the FLUKE 62.
Any other cheaper brands that are as good? Francis |
I bought one from Harbor Freight for about $40 - works fine. That being said, I'm not sure that it's really necessary. I believe that if you warm the transmission up enough with a nice drive before you check it that your temp is going to be around 80°. I don't think it gets much hotter than that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

I would say it depends on the time of year. Last fall I could not get an infared reading on the bottom of the transmission pan over 65 degrees C even after a brisk 20 mile drive. I can't say if the internal transmission temperature was higher.
