Steering/tire rubbing
Hi guys
I recently bought a 1984 w123 280e with right hand drive for here in Melbourne Australia. I have noticed that when the steering is turned to full right hand lock the inside if the tire rubs, and when the steering is on full right hand lock it does not have that solid hard like it hit the stop unlike when full left lock is turned it comes to a hard stop. I have fitted new tires, shocks, adjusted the seering box. the springs are ok and not sagged. Is there a steering stop that needs adjustment or replace/renew steering knuckle/balljoint. the car steers ok a little bit floaty at speed. Any ideas would be great. Thanks Brian |
Check Steering Wheel & Tie Rods
You might measure your tie rods and see if they are exactly the same length.. left side total versus the right side total. IF they are exactly the same length then check to see if the steering wheel needs to be removed and recentered... Jim

The lower stops should limit steering left and right. Find a shop familiar with Mercedes. Which way does the water go down the plug hole where you are ?:wacky: . |
