the power passenger seat will not move back and forth on my 190e. the back works and the seat will move up and down but the entire seat will not move back and forth. any ideas? how can i move the seat manually? thanks.

Its probably a switch problem. The early ones can be taken apart and cleaned if one is handy with such things.

If the motor is working but the seat isnt moving you have a cable problem most likely. The cable housing stretches and eventually one end comes out of the gearing at either end. I have fixed many of these cables by taking a quarter inch out of the center and then placing a piece of fuel hose (7.5mm ID) and two clamps over the two ends. The only reason to do this is that the seat is out and the dealer doesn't have the cable as they are relatively cheap.

when i move the back-forth switch, it makes a clicking noise. does this mean the motor works? can i move the seat manually? thanks.

The seat can not be moved manually, except when apart. I have run the transmissions with a cable on a drill but only in a state of disassembly on the bench.

Steve is likely right when he says it is probably the switch. Try spraying it out with electric motor and contact cleaner then manipulate the switch twenty to thirty times. You can do this with the switch in place and it often yeilds acceptable results
