GRRR Windshield Crack

'92 300SE. Windshield had a bunch of scratches on it from the PO's failure to replace a broken wiper blade. I had already purchased all of the necessary stuff to buff out the scratches, and lo and behold, I've now got a crack in the glass.

It's dead-center, a little stone chip (not even a bulls-eye, just a little chipped place on the glass) right at where the clear portion of the glass turns opaque at the bottom of the windshield. I didn't even hear the stone hit.

The crack is about 6" long and headed right across towards my side of the windshield, which is likely to fail safety inspection come renewal next month. With the upcoming blast-furnace summer here in Houston, I fully expect it to spread.

ANYWAY - I'll be in the market for a new windshield soon. Any suggestions or cautions I should be aware of? Can I get it replaced at any competent glass shop?

Any suggestions for glass replacement here in Houston?

Regards

Check with your insurance. They may replace it free, they do in Florida anyway. Perhaps you could have it done at the dealership if its covered.

Call a dealer or two and ask who they use.

Which brand of glass to get?

Probably best to specify Sigla, Sekurit or PPG.

Those are acclaimed to be the best, for Mercedes, though opinions differ around here
about which of them should be your first choice

Make sure the trim and gaskets are properly installed or they will leak.
