know the name of the US supplier to MB for manuals and books, etc.? I bought a service book from them before, and have misplaced their name/number; I believe it starts with an "H" but cannot for the life of me remember it. Going through them was dramatically faster than trying to get the dealer to get the stuff..can anyone help? Thanks in advance..

MB info can be purchased straight from them by dialing 1-800-FOR-MERCedes. Orders can be had overnight for the extra shipping charge.

I haven't found that to be true for service books and owner's manuals. I've been told by two or three dealers that this stuff does not come out of the normal parts depot, and must come from the US supplier to MB. I would love to get it from 800-4, but this is for a 124, not a current model. I'd love to know differently...

You are not listening. I didn't say have your dealer call 1-800-FOR-MERCedes. That which is available can be had in one to two days. Many things are out of print. Those that are out of print are now unavailable except maybe through ebay.

Most manuals that are out of print have been collated to the CDs, which are the real value.

I'm pretty sure MB does their own manuals. I know that they distribute them.

Many manufacturers use a distributor to distribute technical info. BMW uses a place called Central Letter Shop. Many others use a company with a name starting with "H": Helm. The list of manufacturers can be seen at:

I called a local place the other day for a 1976 300d manual. They had one. But after I got there I noticed it was for 123 body. I have a 115. They must have produced both in 76. Glad I didn,t buy it sight unseen.

1. All of the benz documentation, by car, from 1949 to 1994 is available on CD rom here at the Mercedes Shop.

2. All of the benz documentation can be found by shopping ebay. This is not the fastest way to get manuals, nor is it the cheapest way to get them some times. But you will find odd things this way.

3. The phone number posted earlier in this thread will get you ANYTHING and EVERYTHING still in print by MB. If you can't get it by calling this number, your dealer can't get it either.

4. If you check out the vintage section, you'll find a recent post by Rich Easley that enumerates EVERYTHING available at that phone number with its price.

5. If you still can't find what you want, try "TMC Sublications" http:/www.tmcpubl.com or "Shiff European Automotive Literature", http://www.schiffeuropean.com.
