1992 190e 2.6 wont start

I have a 1992 Mercedes 190e 2.6 motor. Car has spark, compresson. Was driving to work with nothing apparently wronge at 45 mph when it felt as if someone turned the key off, coasted for 100 ft then felt as if someone turned the key back on. This happened two times within 8 miles. The third time it happened, it has not started since. Three things were suggested to me ovp which I have ordered. Crank sensor and fuel pump relay. Am I on the right track????? Thanks

Yes. But also check your distributer cap and rotor, one or both may have disintegrated internally. We've seen it reported on this forum a couple of times over the years.

God I've been on here to long

92 2.6 won't start

You stated it has spark so crank angel sensor is probably not going to help, I would suspect fuel pumps or relay. You could test this by spraying some starting fluid into the air cleaner and cranking. If it starts and then dies have a look at the pump/relay combo.
Good luck Mike

I have tried putting starting fluid into the air filter, it did not start. The car has spark, compresson, and starting fluid and still does not start.

Can you describe what it sounds like when it doesn't start?

Some thoughts

Even though it has spark it has to be enough spark. Definitely check the dist/rotor. Also do yourself a cheap favor and change the plugs if you haven't in a while. The fuel pump can be diagnosed by listening near the fuel tank, should buzz when the car is in position 2 before cranking. If the plugs are shot or the dist/rotor are going bad you might be a little bit flooded. Remove the air filter housing (very simple) and look down the throttle body/butterfly. When I exp this issue I had some fuel pooled in there. Once mopped up and plugs changed it started up fine.

If you're uncertain about the fuel pump, you could undo the line to the fuel dist (easy to do) and then crank to position 2 (have a jar handy and put out the smoke). If it sprays then the pump is fine.

Did you order the OVP yet? I have an old one that was working fine, just changed it for the hell of it. I could send mine.

Change the air filter too if you haven't in a while, all necessary PM that makes your car happier.

good luck

Want to put a tank in the trunk for WVO/SVO in the E300 Need to find a place to store my OIL!
Still procrastinating about the biodiesel/WVO
Made some biodiesel but so afraid to pour it all in - I've added some and think I'll supplement my fuel to see how I make out

Made some biodiesel but the process scares me - methanol fumes are not your friend! Need to do this outside.

Thanks for everyones help. I am going to replace the OVP tonight. If it doesnot help I intend on rechecking the cap.rotor, and distrib. I did a basic fuel volume test on pumps seems to be fine. I replaced timing chain, guide rail, and tensioner, and head gasket about 8.000 miles ago and ran great. Thanks again for your help.

fixed

Found problem. Rotor adapter plate broke inside of upper timing chain cover. You could not tell anything was wronge with the adapter place with cover on the car. The rotor was still attached and turning but had rotated slighty to put the firing order out of time. Thanks again for the help
