Question replacement of bulb in dash of 300e temp wheel and directional flow section.

could some sombody please advise how to reach the bulb that illuminates the temperture wheel and air direction indicator in the dash of 1988 300e. the right hand side section is inoperative.:

thanks in advance for assistance. this forum is a very informative and interesting and eagerly read everyday. I reside in Shepparton, Australia and it is interesting that the same problems confront everybody world wide. keep up the good work.

If it's the simple type with two big knobs for fan speed and distribution and two thumbwheels for temperature then the bulbs are in the knob spindles. Just pull off the relevant knob and there it is.

For the full climate control type with lots of buttons and a digital display it's a bit more complicated.

The 300E ACC lighting is provided by 2 bulbs, behind 2 pieces of black electrical tape on the bare push button unit itself. The light is distributed to all the buttons by some unique plastic gadget that surrounds the 2 bulbs.

Remove the wood trim, and then you'll have access to the bulbs. They're in a tight spot, so you may need some very small fingers or some tweezers/needlenose pliers to gently yank the bulbs.
