Exclamation horrible k&N pictures

so you still want to run k&N filters?

this 500E came in with both filters in this condition.

Did the previous owner buy the wrong size, or did they shrink from the engine heat? Either way, I'd check the warranty and see about getting my money back. I'd also consider buying a can of MAF cleaner and giving those little wires a thorough spraying.

no they were correct, we had inspected them at his last few services and recommended he get a new set of OE filters, at the last inspection they were intact, and sealing properly.

I have been running K & N filters for the past decade. When I installed my filters, they fit fine. Over the years, though, the same shrinkage has occurred as depicted above. Today, I decided to pull the K & N filters out and go back to factory filters. I didn't really notice any loss of power with the newly-installed factory filters. K & N prescribes a high interval for cleaning their filters and I've always been a little bit nervous about that. It seems like 50,000 miles on the same filter is way too long.
