How cold is your R134?

I just did the core job on my 95 E320, had it recharged, and I'm getting about 50-52 degrees F at the vents. I tested my E420 which had the core done a couple years ago and it too is right there at the 50-52 degree F mark. Is that normal? not cold enough? what are you getting with your R134?

50-52 degree vents temps in Hotlanta during the summer...bet that's not too cool.

My MBs R-12 cools down between 38-42 degrees at the vents when working.

My '04 Tacoma is equipped with 134A and it freezes me out.

I'd say your system needs work.

possible that the fresh air doors are not closing in both cars.

are testing it at speed? i would say the car needs to be running at 1500-2000 rpms to get a fair reading... at idle in the city...50 probably isnt bad.

AtlBenz 06-22-2007 08:13 PM

yeah it was at idle.

everything is new in the 320, new core, new drier, even new cabin filters and blower motor.

I'm going to take a digital thermo with me tomorrow and drive around.

I'm getting a steady 40F at speed and about 50-55F in stop-and-go traffic at 109 F outside today. Other than when I parked my car for a few minutes and restarted it, I have not seen coolant temps above 100C. The CoolHarness works great.

I use freeze12 and get 40 when the climatic wheel is set at 65 in the drive way. It gets cold enough that the heat cycles.

Cool 42

I get a steady 42 F. with revs at 1500 to 2000 running R-134a. Just put in a new evaporator, expansion valve and dehydrator.

Not bad for a 20 year old car though! :D

Mine gets around 45 or so. 1987 560SL - 134 system, new drier, schrader valves and a prayer for nothing else!

JPMOSE 06-23-2007 05:35 PM

I get 42 Degrees F in my 560SL and 300D on a 95 degrees F day. This is at a normal driving speed. I have actually been quite satisfied with my 134a conversions on Mercedes. My BMW didn't fare so well!
