Cup Holder for 1995 E300
I have been looking around and have not found anything I like. My wife always takes a frozen water bottle (20oz) and she would like to have a cup holder for it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA David

8 screws = 8 opportunities to hit a wire or interfere with the window or door mechanism.
Cheaper to buy two 12oz bottles and park one elsewhere while the first is consumed. Plus, she'll have 24oz rather than "only" 20oz.

The one depicted in Texholdem's post is pretty much the only mass-produced cup holder I've seen produced for the W124...and there are a number of sources for it.
Beyond that, you can custom fab one yourself. Personally, I stuff my drinks in the console, and slide the door against the cup to hold it.

Yeah, cup holder is quite an issue for German cars in general. I've been living there for a long time and it seems to me like a cultural matter. Germans do not tend to eat and trink a lot while driving.
I always had German cars over there: a Beetle, 3 Opel Record, 2 Audi, a BMW 633CSi, 3 MB but cannot remember ever having a decent cup holder. I recall a time even in movie theaters there were no cup holders at the seats like in the USA. You yourselves are the cup holders . Perhaps they are catching up with the Amis (German abbrev. for Americans) now.

I had the same problem with my 1989 300E! Consider the following:
Another post suggested going down to the local auto parts store and buying a cheapie plastic cup holder ($2-$3) that was designed to hang from the driver's window. It would have a plastic extention on it with a hook! Break off the hook but leave the plastic extention on it. Slip the extention between the carpet and the transmission housing just in front of the driver's (or passenger's)seat. The cup should rest on the floor and is held in place by the extention wedged into the transmission housing. Works great! Holds even large Gatoraid bottle without a problem and does not interfere with my leg or driving position. Just a thought! Last edited by The Big Dog!; 06-24-2007 at 11:37 AM. Reason: Oops! |

I like Dogs idea. I'll have to check out the auto places and see if I see something I like.
My goal is not to drill holes that can not be hidden at some point if/wen we sell the car. Hence my dislike for the screw onto the door panel thing. I'd like to find one that attaches to the ac vent (I thought I saw those somewhere) but I cannot seem to find something that seems like it would work.

W124 cupholder
I found this one on ebay a few years ago for my '86 300E, it matches my palomino interior exactly. It pops in the console tray and can be removed easily. The "handcuff" arms are adjustable and it includes a tissue holder. I have never seen another one like it. There are no labels or part numbers so I have no idea who makes it. Check out the photos and maybe somebody out there has more info.
My 300E has a five speed manual trans so I included a photo for those have have never seen one. |

Hi Tex, I stumbled upon it on ebay, paid around $25 for it, it was used but perfect. The seller said it was in his car when he bought it from a previous owner so he has no info either.

865sp300e,
I also did a search on ebay but found nothing similar. Guess I have to go with the other one. Thanks

Having had it for 10 years, I can say it is awkward if you are right handed, and note they are NOT adjustable for different sized cups. The common 16 oz plastic water bottles fit right into them. It is true that Mercedes Benz resisted the cupholders in their cars until they couldn't resist the pressure from American buyers that wanted them. I read a survey that said that was the most important option desired by Americans. Driving is a serious business in Germany, cupholders never fitted in their automobile culture. Some American made minivans had 17 cupholders in them. The latest Chrysler cars have heating and cooling features in their cupholders if you want them.
