Brake pads!!!

Hi fellas I am kind of a newby here, but I just bought my wife a 92 300E and I installed new front rotors and pads, I think they were pagid pads, anyway these are the most dusty pads in the world, hell I have 2 Jeeps that I have built one a 2002 wrangler with a 375 HP Plug and play Hemi that i installed and the other is a Cherokee XJ with a 350 Chev LT1 corvette .
aND BOTH THESE RIGS DONT THROW OUT THE BRAKE DUST that the one I just put on my wifes Benz, can you fells guide me in a direction of pads that dont throw out so much dust, I am new at this Mercedes gig, I have done the shocks front and back for her and Installed radiator, and hoses so I am getting use to this German "SLICK ITEM."..Thanx Guys

Hi Lucky.

First off, welcome. I'm also a Jeep guy: '85 CJ-7, glass body & Howell FI.

I've found the PBR Metal Masters to have good "bite", but do not dust-up much on these cars.

Interesting contrast between the two vehicles (Jeep and MB), isn't it. Most Jeep guys would look at you crosseyed if you told them you found it easy to work on a Benz.

BTW, I'm a member of Jeeps Unlimited. Are you too?

There's another member here who's also a member at JU. He has a diesel 190E, and a diesel conversion in a CJ.

Good luck.

The Axxis Deluxe pads (I believe same company as PBR, just a newer image for the US) get lots of good reviews in regard to performance and low dust.

Hi TV, No I dont belong to any Jeep forum, I do "peek in the door" once and a while to see what is going on, But I see mostly Kids in there and many are going about things the wong way, Hell I am 60,s Kid and I am getting to old to crawl around under these rigs any more, so my Jeeps are done. I have owned every 4X4 made I beleive. And I thought I would try this Benz for my wife, It drives very nice for a older car, It is a 92 300E 2.6 I picked it up from a gal who said it was burning oil, and she took it to a Mecanic and he told her that it needed a valve Job at about 2100 smacks. So I bought it from her and a I, along with a friend that knows a little about these cars, Did all kinds of test and come to find out all it needed was Valve seals. i AM AMAZAED how easy they are to work on, If you have the right tools of corse. By the way thanks for the tip on the Brake pads . I am taking these off very soon hell I only have 300 miles on them but they dust up the wheels so bad, I run Performance Friction on all my Jeeps they stop very well and very little dusting, I dont think They make pads for Mercedes though, again thanx guys for the imput.

I use Performance Friction on my Chevy.
Best pads ever. ;)
A little bit of research in advance ( right here ), could have given you some clues what pads to buy ( or avoid ) on a Mercedes. ;)

Check out the CJ forums. The YJ, TJ and XJ forums seem to be filled with "Cold Air Intake" and "Stereo Mod" threads. The CJ guys are a bit more sophisticated -- you have to be to keep one of these going. Judging by your mods, you'd be right at home.

Valve guide seals are a very common issue on these cars. No more so than any other car but when they get to be 15 years old and 250K miles, Benz owners are actually surprised that it's burning a quart every 2000 miles. Fix the seals and your back down to nearly zero oil consumption on a car with 1/4 million miles. These engines are fantastic!

The beauty of these cars is that they are made to be maintained. That is an approach to car building that has been "foreign" to domestic manufacturers for more than two decades.

Again, welcome. I look forward to future interactions.
