Need Help with VIN Number
All,
I recently boutht a 1985 280SE. It is a converted Euro model and meets all conversion standards. However, I just got a letter from my Insurance Company saying that the VIN number was not correct. I have verified the number I gave them and it is the same on the windshield, door, firewall, and on a plate on top of the radiator. After investigating VIN codes I would expect to see a "F" at the 10th didgit. Mine has a "1". Whats up with this. Is there something else I should check? Thanks

Explain to the insurance company that its a European delivery car... thus the VIN you have is correct, eventhough its not in US books.

I hope that works. Has anyone else gone through this. Any advise. Is there something that the Insurance company can check to confirm that it is normal for a Euro car.

Another VIN question
Hi,
I have a 1984 300SD, and I have some confusion over the VIN. The Data plate on the drivers door jamb, and the metal plate on drivers side of the windshield have the same VIN. The # stamped into the firwall, does not match the others. Is that normal, or what? Thanks, 300SDOwner |

I would suggest that is not normal nor right. How have the previous owners been registering the car with mismatched VIN's??
