Need Help with VIN Number

All,

I recently boutht a 1985 280SE. It is a converted Euro model and meets all conversion standards. However, I just got a letter from my Insurance Company saying that the VIN number was not correct. I have verified the number I gave them and it is the same on the windshield, door, firewall, and on a plate on top of the radiator. After investigating VIN codes I would expect to see a "F" at the 10th didgit. Mine has a "1". Whats up with this. Is there something else I should check?

Thanks

Explain to the insurance company that its a European delivery car... thus the VIN you have is correct, eventhough its not in US books.

I hope that works. Has anyone else gone through this. Any advise. Is there something that the Insurance company can check to confirm that it is normal for a Euro car.

Another VIN question

Hi,

I have a 1984 300SD, and I have some confusion over the VIN. The Data plate on the drivers door jamb, and the metal plate on drivers side of the windshield have the same VIN. The # stamped into the firwall, does not match the others. Is that normal, or what?

Thanks,

I would suggest that is not normal nor right. How have the previous owners been registering the car with mismatched VIN's??

I was just reading about this on a site about vin #'s. Apparently the vin on the firewall is used as the 'real' vin in europe. Given this statement it might be normal for it to be different and it might be the one that you should use on your insurance. I'm going to check the firewall vin here too and see if it's different.

btw... I'm looking for info on my WDB1231301A173094 1984 manual 300d- european. If anyone can shed some light, my husband needs to repair it's starting hard and we want to get a service manual.
