little plastic pieces breaking

would some one help me with a general description on removing the overhead control panel(entry exit lighting,sunroof control,in car temp sensor)?
my cd skips 82 0420 and 82 4021
i need to get at the in car temp sensor.
car is 1988 300te and the fixture seems to be the same for 126 cars.
just trying to not hear that awful plastic breaking sound as i have heard before,lol

Hello Larry: You depress the retaining clips from the right side of overhead unit under small edge between headliner with a plastic wedge pushing towards drivers side and pull out of hole. They show two arrows at right side of removal picture. Tim

tim thanks for explaining the picture,i suppose i see the intent but the complete fixture would have to be pulled down about a quarter inch before one could insert a plastic wedge to release the clips as the thing is recessed into the surrounding trim.
still stumped but havent heard any cracking sounds yet.

Larry looking at picture of rear of unit it looks as the spring tabs are not to far from top and bottom 3/4" and I dont remember but I think steel frame comes with when removing. Tim
