-   -   V8 Chip in Inline 6... (http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/19286-v8-chip-inline-6-a.html)

I have the ability to get a V8 chip (for 1992-1995 Mercedes V8s) for VERY cheap. Physically, it should go right in to my car. What would be the results, how would the chip defer or operate differently on an inline 6, 1995, Mercedes?
This might just be a hopeless thought, but no harm, no foul!

I'll wait to hear from the true experts, but I'm thinking that chip can't POSSIBLY work! The chip you have access to is designed to replace the Bosch LH injection-controlling EPROM. I'm pretty sure you don't even have LH injection! Plus, if a chip is designed to supervise the activities of 8 injectors, how's it gonna run just 6? Further, an M119 V-8 has a whole heckuva lot of sensors (to include a knock sensor on each bank of cylinders), and again I'd think this would render the chip incompatable.

Save your money.

The fuel mapping parameters would also be different (as Michael pointed out about 8 injectors versus 6).

The original Pentium chip has the same number of pins as the Pentium 4, but I'll bet you couldn't just swap out your old for the new without some major software (and hardware) changes!!

Buy the chip and sell it for a profit at the next MB swap meet!

Hmm, I suppose that's a good point about the fuel injection system...
What's the worst that would happen if I were to try? Or is it not even worth it...?

Thanks!

David, your car won't run. The timing, ECU functions yada, yada, yada, are all different. And, as an added bonus, you might stand a chance of cooking the chip and/or other support electronics.

Jeff, well then I guess that answers my question! I won't try it!! Thanks a bunch! I don't want to take ANY risk of frying anything! !

I think you would have a better chance trying to put Mac parts in a P.C. .........

David- a chronic itch for more uumph?

Instead of a V8 chip for the C280, maybe it would be more effective to spend more time in your Porsche, CLK, &/or SUV?

...shortly following, an appreciation of the C280's virtues may surface...

,or, "Just Do It" and move to an M119......

Actually, the C280 is faster than the CLK. But the CLK is brand new so maybe it's just not worn in yet.
As for the Porsche, I don't drive that one much! I have never really cared for Porsches. I know that they are truly great vehicles, but they just aren't to my liking I guess.

And as for SUVs... I don't care for them either. I used to drive the Tahoe before I got the C280, and it'd night and day. I can't even describe the difference. We also have a 1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and that's a REAL POS. It's been an OK car... not TOO many problems (3rd trans at 135k miles though!). But the car squeeks and rattles over every bump, every turn, and it's enough to drive you crazy.

I just want a little more oomph in the C280 because it's the car I drive all the time! :)
