I can't find any info on the W126 CD manual on replacing a power window sliding jaw or replacing the AC compressor on an M103. I suppose I could check every model covered in the manual, but I've tried over a dozen with no luck. No shortage of W124 and W201 info, though. Even some R129.

If someone knows how to navigate to this information, please let me know. If someone has a W124 CD manual and some time please let me know as well.

I have discovered MUCH information buried in the CDs that I just got for the 123 chassis. It is the same for my 107 CD as well. There are a lot of PDF files that do not seem to be connected to any of the model/year selections from within the program itself.

The real problem is in navigating the info that IS there. In windows explorer, you will see subfolders with many PDF files – it seems that the beginning numbers of the file names correlate with particular systems, so you can narrow your search based upon that. Unfortunately, it only has the effect of reducing the amount of hay in the stack, but you’re still looking for the proverbial needle in that stack of hay.

The parts guy at the dealer told me that the w126 CD also has no transmission info, as there was never a shop manual for for it. As Sixto said, finding stuff in the CD can be a real challenge, but there is a remarkable amount of info there. If you follow his suggestion I think you will find what you are looking for.

Does anyone have a paper copy of the W126 manual set? I'd like to get a copy of the tables of contents. I believe there is good correlation between the job number and CD file name.

I wonder if MB transmissions are so proprietary that they don't publish a transmission manual for general consumption. The latest, in fact only, MB transmission manual I've seen is for a W189 (58-62 300d). I have a copy of that document if anyone's interested.

I spent way too many hours last night trying to find the transmission info on the 126 CD. I have both the CD and "book" for the 108, and the book has two tranny sections in it.

I thought I saw someone mention on the forum how to locate the tranny info on the CD, but cannot find that post now. Tonight, I plan to check the section number in the 108 book, then look through the individual PDF files of the 126 CD for a similar section number.

I find it hard to imagine they would not include a section covering the important link between the power source and drive wheels.

The automatic transmission information is section 27. Not that any pages from that section are on the CD. But that's because there are no section 27 pages in the paper manuals.

The pages for compressor removal are for the M116/117 engine.
I don't have the 126 climate control manual to compare to.

There's an index of the 126 CD up on www.mbz.org that lets you browse through the CD directly. It wasn't working for me. Perhaps it might for you.

The predictability of the Germans. I looked at the 108 book, saw the transmission section was 27, then went through the 126 CD looking for anything prefaced with 27. No joy, but good to see the numbering system is constant.

Next I spent a couple hours opening each PDF file and seeing what it contained. Found a couple drawings that had the tranny included, but that was it. I did find several jobs that referred one to the 124 manual too.

I'll take a look at the index at mbz.org, maybe it is buried in another folder/sub-folder.

I couldn't find the 126 CD index at mbz.org, so I continued my manual search. I was able to locate two section 27 files. I'm at work right now, but I think they were in the maintenance folder - 2702 and 2710 (???), dealing with fluid/filter change and filling, both being 4 page documents.

Ah, I forgot about the maintenance book. Yeah, that's about the limit of what should be there.

What info were you looking for anyway ? Also, what kind of tranny is it (a 722.what) ?

Not sure which tranny yet Charles, as the 560 doesn't get here until Monday. I was looking for info/pictures and data regarding the tailshaft housing, yoke and shifter linkage, as that is what I'll be working on. I might be able to use the 108 book as a rough guide in a pinch though.

The 560 will have a 722.3 tranny, the 4.5 will have a 722.003 tranny.

Back when the 4.5 was built and for some time thereafter MB didn't believe in field repairs for their transmissions. We were to install factory rebuilts and the book only covered R&R instructions and linkage adjustments, fluid specifications and some pressures.

The most informative books were the theory of operation books that came out in the eighties. They are not included in the CDs.
