I am helping a friend with a 280 that has a sloppy shifter.
We pulled the rod out from between the transmission and the shifter itself. This is about a 24 inch piece that has a rubber bushing in the transmission side. Can this bushing be replaced? It has a pin that holds it in going thru the rod. There is a fair amount of play in the bushing. We tried to hammer out that pin, but it wont budge. The stealer told him they wanted 800.00 for the part and replacement!! Thanks in advance. Don C |

You're doing something wrong, but I'm not there so I don't know what. There are very simple urethane bushings around the rod ends and can be replaced quickly for a dollar or two each. Have you gone to the dealer and asked for the bushings.
Good luck, |

Thanks Larry
This is a manual trans. We removed the 20" rod as described that is above the drive shaft connecting the actual shifter to the transmission.
The transmission side of this rod has a rubber bushing inside the rod before the actual connection to the transmission. A steel piece comes out of the center of the bushing where the bolt will pass thru to connect to the transmission linkage. There is also an interesting design in that the bushing has a pin that goes thru it and sticks out of a 1/4 " hole in both the top and bottom of the rod. It would appear that to remove the bushing, this pin will need to come out first. If we get stuck I will try to post a digital picture. Let me know if you are familiar with this piece. Stumped, Don |
