Can I change out my old shocks that have 212000 miles on them on my own or is it to difficult

No, it's a fairly easy job. Try a search - should be plenty of info in the files.

You should be able to search for tons of info on how to do the shock replacement

The reason I am posting is that I did 4 shocks on my 1998 C-230, I had no prior experience in doing that kind of work, but I purchased and studied a Haynes manual, I went to Fastlane above studied the pictures of shocks and when I got my shocks I studied all the parts and made sure I knew where each part belonged and how they fitted.


I purchased specialized tools to remove interior trunk trim fasteners and purchased stubby screwdrivers and wrenches so they would fit in the limited spaces around shock towers.

I also made sure that I had a spare floor jack so that I could raise and limit drop of the lower control arm in order to align bolt holes.

Also when tightening the shock top bolts you don't want the shock piston rod to rotate so make sure you have a vice-grip that you can secure the rod from twisting - that was something that occured in my installation that I didn't expect.

Be safety conscious and search and ask as many questions on forums so yiu feel confortable.

I don't know how much difference there is between your 95 and my 99. I had
the shocks on the bench and decided one day to do an exploratory.....and just
to look at the fittings and try to gauge the degree of difficulty. I hadn't tried
such an undertaking before.

One thing led to another, remove trunk liner, etc etc....and before I knew it,
I was done. My first time, and it took me a slow and easy 3-4 hrs. Basic
shop tools. If you have shocks and springs separate (not struts / coilovers)
it should be quite pleasant...with a few knuckle scrapes for character.

Raymond, thanks for the description. I just got my new Bilsteins and was looking for some info on the difficulty of the job. Will replace this weekend and post some pics if I can figure out how to do that...
