Sorry to flood the forum as soon as I have joined!
I have a bad flat spot on acceloration and some hesitancy when the engine is cold. Kickdown is fine, high speed fine, but I have to stomp about on the accelorator much more than I'd like. I plan to take the car to a carb specialist but would rather go in there and know what they should be looking for - this may help me avoid getting ripped off! Also, considering asking for a price for a replacement carb (if the repair is extensive). 1985 190 2.0 Rebuilt engine 10,000 miles ago recon auto gearbox 25,000 miles ago |

I wasn't aware Mercedes put carbs on 190 models, but if you have a flat spot on acceleration and the car idles smooth it could be your fuel filter possibly, or the accelater pump on the carb. Depending on the type of carb you have the pump may need to be replaced as part of a total rebuild or the pump action can be adjusted. There is also a posibility that the carb may be jetted too lean.
Then again it may not be a carb problem at all. There could be resistence in the ignition wiring or a coil that is going bad that will give you "carb" problems.
