Hi,
I have a 1987 W124 300D turbo with automatic transmission. Today the, while I was accelerating to second gear, the transmission seemed to jump into neutral and won't come out of it. The linkage from the stick to the transmission works and is turning the part at the transmission case. Does anyone have a pdf of this transmission? My guess is that some linkage is disconnected inside the transmission case. Any guesses about what the problem is? Thanks

There is no reverse, no park, no forward. The tranny has 20K on it. The car has 250K
Fluid level is good, no leaks. Clean fluid. The car starts fine. I need a transmission exploded part diagram too ![]()

20K on a Mercedes remanufactured transmission or what? Mine is screwed-up too. Just under 50K on a rebuild from a mercedes only indy transmission guy here in L.A. I took it to him and he cleaned it all up and and we found a small amount of shavings in the bottom. he adjusted the modulator and its running much better but it wont last long. maybe 2k miles. he didn't think it was slipping and missing from governors or valves but from friction plate wear. Thats what he thought from the first drive around the block before he cleaned and adjusted it. Friction material wear is what he said. Seems simple enough, I guess.
I've seen exploded diagrams somewhere of this transmission. I'll look around online for some. Good lock. Jason

20K on a rebuilt. The friction clutches are fine on this. I don't know how Mercedes does things differently from others, but general troubleshooting for an auto tranny for this problem could be caused by the following:
Manual linkage out of adjustment valve body or primary regulator faulty parking lock pawl faulty (not my problem) torque converter clutch faulty I' ![]()

Well I put the car on the jacks today and vuwalla, I found the problem: The left axle broke. That's a whole lot better than a transmission problem!!
