E320 Wagon rear interior lights stay on...

The rear most interion lamps stay on. Any ideas what would trigger them? It there a manual switch back there somewhere? (New to me 1999 E320 wagon 4MATIC)

..stay on when door closed?
..stay on when door open?
..will turn off after (x) minutes?
...will stay on until battery discharged?
...only when certain conditions exist?

There's a timer/relay to turn them off--yours has probably failed. See dealer.

Have you tried pressing the rear dome lights button near the sunroof control? I know it sounds silly, but I've left mine on many a time!

there is also an long term timer...which turns off bulbs if door is left ajar when
car is off. this prevents battery drain. if you purposely left rear on and con-
tinue driving, does it trigger this longer delayed-OFF? could be 15-30 mins.....

Are ALL your bulbs working - When my window reg when out on Xmas day with window down (was raining of course) I had to disconnect the door courtsey lamps in order to pull the door panel to get the window back up.

While it was apart waiting for the new regulator none of the interior lamps (front, rear, etc.) would go off on their own.
