front end shimmy

86 560SEL has slight front end shimmy at about 45mph and 65mph

things done so far in this order:

1. tires balanced
2. front end parts replaced - lower ball joints, subframe bushings, track rod mount kits, and idler arm bushing repair kit
3. four wheel alignment

Was a visual (leak) and functional test run on the the steering damper? These cars can get into SERIOUS shimmy when the steering damper fails because of the high caster suspension - happened on my 190.

If all other mechanical checks indicate no problem find a tire shop with a Hunter 9700. This machine checks both the wheel and tire for radial and lateral runnout in addition to static and dynamic balancing. Excess radial runnout can cause "wheel shake", which typically indicates static tire unbalance, but it can be an out-of-round situation, which no amount of "balancing" will solve.

If the wheel wiggles back and forth (shimmy) the tire or wheel or both may have excessive lateral runnout or there's a dynamic balance problem with the assembly.

I think you can locate a shop with a Hunter 9700 in your area at www.gsp9700.com
