Airconditioner Fuse(s) for 400E
 

I went to use my airconditioning in my 400E earlier this year and it wouldn't get cold. I checked the fuse in the main fuse box and it is fine, but I noticed on some other threads on this forum that at least a few other models have a secondary fuse for the airconditioning unit. I engaged and disengaged the compressor with the dashboard controls but didn't hear noise from the compressor to indicate that it was working (I've had a couple of other cars with airconditioning units and noticed the compressor made a noise when they engaged even though one of the cars had a freon leak and wouldn't produce any coldness). My manual doesn't mention an extra fuse, so I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a secondary fuse, and, if there is, where to find it.

If the blower motor works then BOTH fuses are OK.

That car has a computer that turns the A/C compressor on. That computer has diagnostic capabilities.

Many times on that model the wires at the compressor will be broken.

On my car, I cannot tell when the compressor engages when I turn the air on from inside the car. I don't know why, but I suspect since the computer automatically increases the engine speed a split second before the compressor engages, the engagement would be difficult to notice.

There are two fusible links: one for the cockpit blower fan (that's the one that blows cold air into the inside of the car) and one for the two aux cooling fans in front of the radiator. The cockpit blower fan fuse is shown in the thumbnail picture and is next to the strut tower on the left side of the car. The aux cooling fan fuse is located just to the right of the fusebox. It looks just like the blower fan fuse.
